Mai - Universal Divine Mother

‘MAI’ means Universal Divine Mother, i.e. Mother of All, propitiable with Universal Love, Service, Devotion and Self-Surrender.

MAI is the finalmost, infinite one power that creates, maintains and refashions universes after universes. The one from whom anything and everything that has a name originates, in whom it lives and to whom it returns.

‘MAI’ is a word coined by Mai Herself when She commanded Founder Maiji to install Her as ‘MAI’ – ‘The Universal Divine Mother’.

Mother is essentially the Ocean of Infinite Love and Mercy. Mother is human mother, vested with omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence, and raised to Infinity and Godhood/Divinity. MAI is to a Mai-ist what a human mother is to her child. Nothing less than God of all nations, all religions, all humanity, but conceived as Mother.

Mai is propitiated by practicing (1) Motherhood of God (2) Universality (3) Love (4) Service (5) Devotion (6) Unconditional Cheerful Self-Surrender and (7)Spiritual Co-equal status of man and woman. This must be practised in daily life.

The Final Most Ultimate Mother is called ‘MAI’ because she has no other name by way of delimitation. As already mentioned the word ‘MAI’ is a word coined by Mai Herself when She asked Mai Swarupa to install Her.

What is Mai-ism?

Mai-ism is a Universal Religion.

If you’re fed up with the word ‘religion’, then it is a remedy for the whole universe. Universal Mother’s Love Remedy !

Let us not take Mai-ism as an addition to already existing too many ‘isms’. Rather, it is a synthetic, parental religion for reconciliation and unification of all individual religions.

It is the religion of reversion, from diversities to unity, and for developing the grand sum total of divine forces, on consolidation of all the centripetal forces scattered haphazardly all over the universe.

Basic tenets of Mai-ism are:
Universal Love
Universal Service
Devotion (to God as Mother)
Unconditional Cheerful Self Surrender

Anyone can most easily follow a universal religion concurrently with one’s own personal religion in its entirety, as the purposes, activity-realms, aims and objects of both are quite separate. Individual religion is meant for individual issues and ends; Universal religion for universal issues and ends.
Any doctor can be an active member of a city-epidemic prevention Institute and yet have his own personal dispensary and vice-versa.

Mai-ism lays the highest emphasis on loving all and hating none, and enjoins leaving all questions of any injustice, any omission of return or remuneration or ingratitude, etc. to Mai, through the next two tenets of Devotion and Unconditional Cheerful Self-surrender.

Mai-ism is the universal, psychological religion for one and all of any religion or no religion without caste, creed or colour. With full reverence to and while following one’s own religion, one can be a Mai-ist. Mai ism is one’s own personal religion to be adopted after the age of discretion and not merely one’s ancestral religion of one’s birth.

Under Mai-ism, there is no place, by its very postulates, for the condemnation of any section of society as ‘untouchables’, Woman’s subjugation by Man has no room as every Mai-ist is expected to look upon every woman (except his own wife) as representative form of Mother, and, as under Mai-ism the co-operation of man and woman in the Mother’s worship is the highest spiritualising force.

Mother and child relationship between Mai and devotee forms the solid foundation of Mai-ism.

Practice feeling that you are a child. A child whom a mother could not but accept, however wicked. You automatically get confidence, you regain your innocence, purity and sincerity and you raise yourself above world-wormness, sexuality and selfishness. You are off your cares. Time is Eternity for you and the burden of life is lightened.

Be Mother’s child and Her lap shall be thrilling and throbbing to have you on itself.”

The Founder, Mai Swarupa Mai Markand

The close of the nineteenth century saw the birth of a great Saint, Markandrai Dholakia. Later, He became known as Saint Mai Swarupa Mai Markand. He was born in 1885 in Petlad, a prosperous town in erstwhile Baroda State of Gujarat. He had his education in Pune Engineering College and was a qualified Civil Engineer. He entered Government Service in 1921 and retired from service in 1942.

He was affectionately called ‘Maiji’ by His devotees and close associates. Right from His childhood He worshipped Divine Mother. However, He was for the ‘Love’ aspect rather than the ‘Shakti’ aspect of Mother. She granted Him a number of visions, protected Him from several dangers and blessed Him with unlimited powers. Eventually, She accepted Him as Her Most Beloved Son.

And finally, at the repeated and insistent commands of Divine Mother Herself, Maiji installed Her on midnight hour of 2-9-l932 as Most Merciful Universal Divine Mother Mai and declared 'Mai-ism' - the Universal Religion entwined around Mai.

Arising from His innate love for His fellow-beings, Maiji used His miraculous powers to relieve the miseries of countless number of people, cured incurable diseases and worked many miracles. He was a marvel of His time, a living legend and a miracle of love. He founded His empire on love. Eventually, He identified Himself with the Divine Mother so much that He Himself became a living Mother in flesh and blood. Some of His disciples and close associates alive today are in a position to assert categorically and without any exaggeration that the Divine characteristics possessed and the Godly powers wielded by Maiji were amazing.

He was one of the Founders of International Religious Federation (Japan). He was also elected Vice-President of the Universal Religious Alliance (Cuba) for six years from 1959 to 1965 with the portfolio of Peaceful Human Relations.

He has written several books, His magnum opus being 'Mai-ism’ in which He has elaborately dealt with His own experiences in the spiritual sphere and also the Universal Religion of Mai-ism.

His life and teachings have been briefly mentioned in "who is who" in the Indian Year Book published by the Times of India since 1944-45 till 1966.

Without any external insignia of Sainthood familiar to the lay crowd, He was a live wire of love and sympathy.

After performing a stupendous task which ordinary people would need centuries to complete, Maiji returned to Mai's Lotus Feet on 21-12-1966. Since then in His disembodied form He has been showering Choicest Blessings even on casual devotees. The saga of His life will inspire generations to come. The best homage we can pay to His memory is to follow the path He illumined till His last breath.

Mai-ism is not man-made but God-made. A Divine Dictation! Founder was unwilling to take up the task of establishing a Universal Religion. Universal Mother Mai Herself, out of Her Immesurable Love for Him, made Him to do it compulsorily!

Mai-ism is not one more religion added to already existing so many. Even a cursory study of Mai-ism will assure any intelligent reader that Mai-ism is denominated as a ‘religion’ only for want of a better true-sense-conveying word.

Mai-ism rests on very simple yet profound four principles:
Universal Love
Universal Service
Devotion to God as Mother
Unconditional Cheerful Self-surrender

The aspect of Universality, in its broadest and truest sense, has not been introduced by any other system of belief than Mai-ism.

Mai-ism is not pulling the same old cart in the same old grooves with a little monotony-breaking, nominal change here and there. It is for an entire overhauling and reconstruction and revision and renaissance of all the best in all religions.

Briefly and broadly, Mai-ism is for one universal God of the whole world.

Mai is the Universal Mother of all, most merciful and showering Her fullest Grace on any one of any religion, or no religion, trying to live the life of universality and truest religiosity, with maximum love, service, devotion and unconditional cheerful self-surrender to the extent of one's possibility and practicability.

Mother and child relationship between God and Devotee. This is the power-house of spiritual force of Mai-ism. Mother's dealing with Her child is known to the smallest infant and biggest illiterate. No scriptures and no philosophies are needed there. The Divine Childlikeness!

Mai-ism does not worry about worships, gospels, churches, ceremonies, etc., but it fully insists on true religiosity, morality, virtue, truth, justice, mercy, love, devotion, service, self-surrender, etc.

Mai-ism pays highest attention to the nature of seeds sown and the best seeds-sowing-activity, and not to decorating the fields and the ploughs or praising the ploughman’s appearances, oratories and agricultural lore literacies, etc.

Mai-ism is based on LOVE.

Mantra Display

It is the experience of many Mai Devotees, who have tried so many other Mantras, that Her sacred name “Jay Mai Jay Markand Mai” has by repetition given more efficacious and quicker results than so many other mantras, for Misery Relief.

Assurance given by the Saint Mai Swarupa is that, as experienced by Himself, you too will have a miraculous relief of peace and bliss on commencing the repetition of Mother’s most efficacious Mantra.
